St. John Finance Department receives Excellence Award again!
St. John –The St. John the Baptist Parish Finance Department's Manager, Vince Lucia, received notification that his department received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting once again. The department has received this award for the past 7 years from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.
"The department works hard and we look forward to continue working to provide the best accounting and fiscal management possible for the people of St. John," Finance Manager Vince Lucia said.
The Award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been awarded to the St. John Parish Council Finance Department. This department has been led by Finance Manager Vince Lucia since 2005 when he assumed many of the responsibilities of the Chief Financial Advisor.
Acting Parish President Pat McTopy said, "As we work to build the public trust in their local government it is more important than ever to have our Finance department recognized for their excellent handling of the parish's finances."
The budget of St. John is projected to reach $52 million in 2010. In 2009, the budget stood at $59 million which was nearly the same as 2008's figures. In addition to the annual budget, the finance department is also responsible for the finances associated with the $100 million in capital projects currently in progress.
The GFOA is a non-profit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals in Chicago, IL, and Washington, DC.
